How it works

  1. 01Real timings

How long it takes from start to finish, and how many of those minutes are actually hands-on.

  2. 02Sources compared

Every recipe is cross-checked against at least six sources, not copied from one: quantities are the median, or the registered recipe’s where there is one.

  3. 03The plan

The steps on the clock, side by side: do something else while the water boils, and know when you eat.

  4. 04Step by step

One step at a time: the cue that tells you it’s ready, and what you can do in the meantime.

  5. 05The alarm

It rings when a wait is over and tells you where to go back to. If the pot wants another minute, give it one.

The spaghetti alla carbonara recipe card in the app: 22 minutes in all, 12 hands-on, 955 kcal each, difficulty 3; for 2 people, 1 cook; spaghetti 200 g, guanciale 120 g, 3 egg yolks, pecorino romano 60 g; at the bottom, ‘See the plan · 22min’.
The carbonara sources in the app: cross-checked against 7 sources, from Gambero Rosso to Luciano Monosilio, from Luca Cesari’s history of carbonara to the CREA food tables; the quantities are the median of the versions. Above, the allergens: gluten, eggs, milk.
The carbonara plan in the app: for 2 and one cook, six steps on the clock from 19:30 to 19:52; 12 minutes hands-on, 8 watching and 2 free. Putting the water on takes 10 minutes, and meanwhile you cut the guanciale and mix the yolks and pecorino.
Cooking in the app, first step: put the water on, a wait; it’s ready at a rolling boil that moves the whole surface, and meanwhile you can cut the guanciale, 5 minutes. The timer reads minus 10 minutes.
The alarm in the app: the wait is over for the water, right at the 10 minutes it was meant to take. Back to cutting the guanciale, 5 minutes, then the yolks and pecorino, 4; the buttons say ‘1 min more’ and ‘Ready’.
