What is a summer roll?

People in Vietnam love to eat summer rolls as an appetizer, and they make a lot of them. People who eat them are good for them because they are healthy, relaxed, and low in calories.

It has boiled shrimp and sliced pork in it. Rice paper is used to roll up all ingredients into a single ball.

A creamy and salty peanut sauce called nuoc mam cham is often served with Vietnamese summer rolls (fish sauce dipping sauce).

RICE NOODLE IS THE MAIN INGREDIENT

This dish is made with Asian rice noodles as the main ingredient. If you go to the store, there are a lot of different kinds of rice noodles or rice vermicelli.

To get the best results, you should buy Vietnamese rice noodles that have been specially made for making summer rolls. Usually, it shows a picture of the rolls in the box.

Other than that, you can also buy Maifun Rice Noodles in a box, such as Annie Chun’s.

HOW TO MAKE SUMMER ROLLS?

To prepare Summer Rolls, you don’t need to be a chef! The ingredients can be purchased in various places, such as Asian markets or over the internet.

You can now find Asian ingredients in the International food section of most supermarkets. The Asian food aisle will also have them.

There are three main parts: rice noodles, vegetables, and shrimp. The first step is to put them together.

Next, put the rolls with fresh ingredients and make the dipping sauce.

Even if you prepare the rolls in advance, allow your family and friends to make their own.

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 oz. (115 g) peeled and deveined shrimp
  • 2 leaves fresh lettuce, sliced
  • 6 sheets Vietnamese rice paper
  • water
  • 4 oz. rice noodles
  • 2 oz. (56 g) carrot, peeled and cut into matchstick strips

HOISIN-PEANUT SAUCE:

  • 4 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
  • 4 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon creamy peanut sauce
  • 1 tbsp. roasted peanuts, roughly chopped or pounded
  • sugar to taste
  • 1/4 cup warm water

Instructions

  1. Add the water to a pot and boil it. Add the rice noodles and cook them as directed by the package. Stir them every now and then. Drain and rinse with cold water. Set them aside.
  2. Mix everything for the Hoisin-Peanut Sauce together in a small bowl. Then stir it together. Mix the peanuts thoroughly in a bowl.
  3. In another small pot, heat some water and put the shrimp for about 1 minute. Cooldown before cutting in half. Set things aside.
  4. It’s best to split the vermicelli with the shrimp and lettuce into six equal parts.
  5. It is time to make the summer rolls. Dip one sheet of rice paper in a big bowl of water. Shake off the extra moisture and quickly move it to a clean, dry, flat surface, like a kitchen countertop or a chopping board.
  6. Roll the rice paper up, starting with the short end closest to you and working your way up to the long end.
  7. It’s time to add the lettuce and carrots that have been cut into small pieces.
  8. Put three shrimp halves on top.
  9. Filling: Fold the bottom side of rice paper over the filling tightly. Then fold the left and right sides of rice paper over the filling. Make sure the filling is firmly in place.

  11. It’s time to serve the Summer Rolls with the Hoisin-Peanut Sauce as soon as possible.
