Some of our readers have asked if our Easy Chicken Chorizo Paella could be cooked in a rice cooker when we initially published the recipe. Which led me to ponder. This is such a clever plan. This Rice Cooker Ribs and Rice cook-guide is both easy-to-follow and quick to make.
Using a rice cooker to create paella would be a departure from the traditional preparation of the dish, but it would simplify the preparation of the ultimate one-pot dinner. There will be no more blackened rice bottoms or mushy rice.
The Chinese term for this method is “men fan.” You may adapt this method into a rice cooker recipe for dishes like Chicken and Mushroom Clay Pot Rice, Hong Kong Style Clay Pot Rice, and Shanghai Cai Fan. Here, for the first of what we hope will be many rice cooker meals, we’ll use the plain rice cooker instead of the clay pot.
A good rice cooker is a worthwhile investment these days; you can get everything from high-tech models to more basic ones; nevertheless, you’re better off with a dedicated rice cooker rather than a multi-purpose appliance that also steams, makes oatmeal, etc. They can cook a wide variety of foods, and their settings usually include different types of rice, brown rice, sticky rice, porridge, soup, steaming, and more. Almost all rice cookers have measurements marked on the inside to help you get the right amount of rice into the cooking liquid.
Even though it sounds stereotypical coming from an Asian family, this is the second most used appliance on our kitchen counter after the coffee maker. Using the cup measurer that came with the rice cooker is the only thing to remember while adding rice. Common baking measuring cups aren’t always accurate substitutes.
You can use your finger as a ruler if you don’t have anything else handy. Pour the rice into the rice cooker and spread it out evenly. Use your index finger to gauge the rice’s depth, and then fill the pot to that mark with water. So long!
You should seriously consider getting a rice cooker if you don’t already have one, and we advise getting a basic one so you can cook rice in it.

INGREDIENTS:
TO MARINATE THE RIBS:
- 1 lb of pork ribs (cut into small pieces)
- 1/4 teaspoon of white pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon of dark soy sauce
- 1/3 teaspoon of salt
YOU’LL ALSO NEED:
- 8 soaked, washed, dried, drained shiitake mushrooms (cut in half)
- 3-5 cloves of chopped garlic
- 3 slices of chopped ginger
- 2 cups of uncooked rice
- 1/2 cup of diced carrots
- 1/2 cup of water
- 1/4 cup of fresh or frozen peas
- 2 tablespoons of oil
- 2 teaspoons of light soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of sugar
- Water
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Marinade the ribs by tossing them in a bowl with the seasonings and setting them aside for an hour.
- Prepare a stir-fry in a wok by heating one tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Stir in the mushrooms and cook until they’ve caramelized. Take out the frying pan.
- Brown the ribs in the marinade by adding another spoonful of oil to the wok and heating it over high heat. Toss in the ginger, garlic, and sugar once the meat is browned, then reduce the heat to medium.
- After a minute of stir-frying, incorporate the carrots, low-sodium soy sauce, and half a cup of water. Simmer at low heat for five to ten minutes or until virtually all liquid has been absorbed.
- Prepare the rice in a rice cooker by adding the required amount of water while the ribs are cooking. If using the liquid, the mushrooms were soaking in, drain it now and add it. You might also use pork, chicken, or vegetable stock instead.
- Mix in 1 teaspoon of salt and the shiitake mushrooms. Put the pot through a quick shake to distribute the liquid and rice evenly. Top the rice with the rib mixture. Just throw it all into the rice cooker and hit the start button. We have started preparing your meal.
- Nowadays, most rice cookers have a timer that will alert you when the rice is done cooking. Open the lid of the rice cooker with 5 minutes remaining in the cooking time, quickly sprinkle the peas on top, and then close the lid again. The time has come to serve!
